Wayne County BOE Recognizes Student Achievement

Wayne County BOE Recognizes Student Achievement

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the Wayne County Board of Education held a regular session board meeting at Tolsia High School.

During this session, the Board of Education members and the Superintendent, Todd Alexandar took the time to recognize students from local schools for their outstanding student achievement.  These students were recognized for their academic performance on the Spring 2023 West Virginia General Summative Assessment.

Alexandar explained that when compared by national ranking, Wayne County Schools ranked 16th in the state of West Virginia out of the 55 counties.  Mr. Alexander stated that the students had surpassed standards in Language Arts, Mathematics, and/or Science.  Mr. Alexandar said, “We are very proud of our students’ hard work.” He also thanked the families for supporting their children’s academics and for attending.

Greg Miller, Director of High Schools/CTE, joined Mr. Alexandar to present the awards to the students.  Mr. Miller read off the list of students’ names from schools including Genoa Elementary, Dunlow Elementary, Crum Prek-8, Fort Gay Prek-8, and the Tolsia High School freshman who were part of the eighth graders last spring.  Mr. Miller also recognized some juniors for their high scores on the SAT assessment.   The students were asked to line up center stage and receive their certificate of recognition.  Mr. Alexandar encouraged the students to keep up the hard work!

  • Not all students who were recognized were able to attend the meeting.  The Board of Education and Mr. Alexandar have been recognizing students throughout the county over the recent months.
