ARC Celebrates 300th Baby Born at Karen’s Place Maternity Center

November 29, 2023

The Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) team recently celebrated a major milestone, with the arrival of the 300th baby born and cared for at their innovative Karen’s Place Maternity Center (KPMC) in Boyd County.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this significant occasion with all of the patients and staff members who have been a part of this exciting success story,” said Tim Robinson, founder and CEO of Addiction Recovery Care. “In just five short years, we’ve seen the transformative impact that Karen’s Place Maternity Center has had on the lives of mothers and children across our region. Our ARC team is proud to be involved in the vitally important work of providing help and healing, one family at a time.”

Located on the campus of King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KPMC provides residential treatment for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders. The facility, which opened in 2018 to give mothers hope on their recovery journey, welcomes up to 21 moms and expectant moms at a time.

Statistics show that 19 in every 1,000 babies in Kentucky are born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) signs or symptoms. Symptoms include: seizures, sleep deprivation, excessive weight loss, and developmental issues. At KPMC, team members work to help decrease those symptoms and lessen days spent in the hospital. Clients have the opportunity to receive residential treatment the entire length of their pregnancy and up to three months post-delivery while learning neonatal care skills. Baby and mom live together at the facility, giving mothers in recovery an opportunity to develop the critical early bond with their baby.

While at KPMC, mothers receive individual counseling along with weekly recovery small group and group therapy sessions. State-certified case managers work with each client to improve their recovery environment by addressing family, educational, housing, and vocational needs.
