1915 – 2016

Blanche Marie (Varney) Marcum, 100, of Louisa, Ky., formerly of Fort Gay, WV. laft her earthly life to begin a new life on May 8, 2016.

She was born October 12, 1915 at Silver Creek, in Wayne County near Crum, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband Harmon Marcum, her parents William J. Varney, mother Florence (Brown) Varney and step mother Julina Varney; brothers, James,  Morris Clayton, and David Varney; sisters, Josephine Jewell, Opal Leflar, Muriel Stuart and Daughter in law Elizabeth (Stroud) Marcum.

She is survived by three sons, William Everett Marcum of London, Ohio; Thomas David Marcum and daughter in law Lotus (Bellomy) Marcum of Fort Gay, WV; Charles Franklin Marcum of Fort Gay, WV; and one sister, Gladys Anderson of Sun City, Arizona; nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She and two of her sisters, Josephine and Opal along with their father William sung old time gospel songs as a quartet from the time they were young children until they were grown. She had a passion for singing as well as quilting. While living in Florida she quilted more than 100 small quilts which were distributed to nursing homes as well as homes for orphan children. She was a member of the Pelican Peace Makers in Edgewater, Florida for several years and some of those quilts were sent as far away as Central America. She loved doing things that benefited others.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Graveside service will be held May 14, 2016 at McClellan Crum Cemetery near Dunlow, WV.
