Lawrence Co. Starts 58th Girls District Play With Win Over Betsy Layne

Louisa, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Girls improved to 4-1 on the year with a 66-50 victory over Betsy Layne in 58th District action on Friday.

It was the 16th consecutive victory for the Dawgs over the Bobcats. 

Sophie Adkins led the way with 21 points, Jada Patton added 16 points, Leandra Curnutte finished with 11 points, Kaison Ward and Abby Maynard had 6 points each, Abby Nelson, Addison Bloomfield and Hallie Adkins had 2 points each. 

The Dawgs hit 1 three pointer and went 10 of 12 from the free throw line. 

Betsy Layne was led by Haleigh Damron with 17 points, Kinleigh Martin had 13 points, Jaden Pente 12 points, Christian Howell 4 points, Karly Williams and Jayden Jarrell had 2 points each. 

The Bobcats went 8 of 11 from the charity stripe and hit 6 three pointers.

Lawrence Co. 59 Morgan Co. 47 ( Tuesday ) 

The Dawgs went on the road and picked up a nice victory over the Cougars. 

Sophie Adkins led the way with 23 points, Abby Nelson also hit double figures with 10 points, Leandra Curnutte netted 9 points, Kaison Ward and Jada Patton added 7 points each, Abby Maynard had 4 points and Hallie Adkins chipped in with 1 point. 

Lawrence Co. hit 2 three pointers and went 7 of 10 from the free throw line. 

Morgan Co. was led by Emma Clinger with 15 points, Bella Smith and Maci Adkins had 11 points each, Autumn Ross had 6 points and Gracie Hampton had 4 points. 

The Cougars hit 5 three pointers and went 8 of 16 from the foul line. 

LCHS 12 18 10 18 = 59

MCHS 14 17 10 6 = 47 

The Dawgs will return to action with another District game on the road at Prestonsburg this Friday.

“… We got off to a slow start but we were finally able to get going. I was happy with how we came out in the second half and was able to get going.”

“… It felt good to get the first district win. We have another district game this week when we travel to Prestonsburg Friday night.”
