Leonard Vinson Compton, 90, of Louisa, KY

Leonard Vinson Compton, 90, of Louisa, KY, passed away peacefully in his home on May 16, 2023.

Leonard was born to Leonard E. Compton and Shirley Vinson Compton on March 27, 1933. He was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Ann Robinson, and brothers Jim Frank and Ronald Compton.

Leonard devoted his life to his country through his service in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Japan.

He married his wife, Betty Lou Skeens in February 1957. Leonard and Betty welcomed their son, William in 1959 followed by their daughter, Donna in 1963.

After the service, Leonard worked at Armco Drainage and Whayne Supply. He then began working at Kentucky Power, where he contributed over thirty years of employment. He retired in 1995.

He was a proud member of the Apperson Masonic Lodge #195 and First Baptist Church of Louisa, which he devoted many years to. Leonard’s hobbies included woodworking and volunteering at Eagle Ridge Golf Course. He held the highest ranking in amateur radio, where his friends know him best as K4PFZ. Leonard checked into the radio one last time during the evening of May 15, 2023.

He had a love for all sports – high school, college, and professional. You could always rely on him to give you a call to remind you about a game or tell you the score. He also enjoyed memorializing every event – big or small through his passion for photography. To his family and friends he was a walking history book; he always had a story to tell. His ability to remember details, dates, and individuals he met throughout his life touched so many over the years.

Leonard and his wife Betty celebrated 66 years of marriage in February of 2023. He was very proud of his children William Leonard (Susan) Compton, and Donna Marie (Mark) Clevenger. He was a loyal “Papaw” to his grandchildren; Michael (Tiffany) Compton and Laura (Corey) Newsome; Caroline, Victoria, and Matthew Clevenger. He was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Reed, Jack, Carson, and Avery.

The visitation will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 6 pm to 9 pm at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Louisa, KY. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Louisa, 301 W. Pike Street with Bro. Chuck Price officiating.
