Louise Branham Compton
1923 – 2016
Louise Compton, 92, of Louisa, KY died March 7, 2016 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY.
Born June 27, 1923 in Weeksbury, KY, she was the daughter of the late Leo Branham and the late Ethel Cyrus Branham Massey. She was bookkeeper and co-owner with her husband Wayne Compton of Central Service, a well-known business in Louisa for many years. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Scott Compton; her son, Joe Wayne Compton; and two brothers, Joe Frank Branham and Clarence Leo “Jack” Branham.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Lee Compton Cornwell (Randall) of Chattanooga, TN; her grandchildren, Joe Wayne Compton II (Friederike) of Berlin, Germany, Elizabeth Louise Compton of Louisa, KY, and Phillip Ross Compton of Lexington, KY; her great-grandchildren, Marlene Sophie Compton, Charlotte Isabel Compton and Phillip Scott Compton, all of Berlin, Germany; her sister, Gertrude Kelley of Columbus, OH., and her daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Compton.
She was a graduate of the 1941 class of Louisa High School. Before her marriage she was a bookkeeper for Island Creek Coal Company in Logan, WV. She was a long-time member of Louisa First Baptist Church and faithful worker in the church during the years when her family was young, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for the youngest children. Her family and home were always the primary focus in her life. She enjoyed making improvements to her home and through the years restored many pieces of antique furniture. She was skilled at sewing and needlework and made many quilts and afghans for family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 6-9 pm at Young Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at the Young Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Chuck Price officiating, followed by internment at the Cyrus Family Cemetery Louisa, KY.
